This painting was made by Stéphani Vignes around 1840. It relates a Greek mythology scene : Milon was a famous Greek athlete and warrior born in Crotone in the VIth century b.c. When he became old, he attempted to split an oak. But the tree trapped his hand and, as he was held prisoner, Milon was gobbled up by wild animals.
